JOB OVERVIEW

In this exciting role at our Washington, D.C.-based, trade association we are looking for an experienced, strategic professional to join our team in advancing Farm Credit’s mission to support rural communities and agriculture. The Sr. Director – Government Affairs will play an important role in executing our integrated public affairs strategy to protect and advance the interests of the Farm Credit System and its customers before Congress and the Administration. This position has primary responsibility for lobbying the United States Senate, including the Agriculture, Banking, Appropriations, and Finance Committees, on matters impacting Farm Credit’s mission, the agricultural industry, and rural communities.

Working closely with the entire FCC team, the Sr. Director – Government Affairs provides political advice and counsel to Farm Credit member institutions and is a key contributor to Farm Credit’s integrated public affairs, grassroots, and lobbying efforts.

The position reports to the Executive Vice President of Government Affairs.

In addition to competitive benefits, the salary range for this position is $133,000-200,000 annually, with eligibility for a performance-based annual bonus. Additionally, FCC allows employees to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Closely monitors legislative activity in the United States Senate and represents Farm Credit’s interests in legislative initiatives.
  • Builds relationships with key lawmakers and their staffs (both House and Senate), Administration Officials, and other key stakeholders impacting public policy matters.
  • Develops information networks to proactively identify policy threats to and opportunities for Farm Credit’s mission.
  • Promotes the interests of the U.S. agricultural industry and Farm Credit to policy audiences.
  • Works in close cooperation with individual Farm Credit institutions on legislative, regulatory, and other policy initiatives, including traveling to various Farm Credit institution locations and other events outside of Washington, DC.
  • Manages workgroups within Farm Credit to develop policy positions.
  • Participates in political fundraising activities to support candidates.
  • Works closely with the FCC team to support grassroots, communications, and reputation management initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Deep experience (5+ years) working with or for the Congress, especially the Senate.
  • Thorough knowledge of the legislative process, politics, and relevant House and Senate Committees.
  • The ability to effectively verbally articulate and write about complex political issues.
  • Deep knowledge of the politics of the agriculture industry and the ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a bi-partisan political environment.
  • Ability to, with relevant training, understand complex business issues, especially those involving financial services providers.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Maintains confidentiality as required and supports the core values and mission of the organization.
  • Position requires some travel.
