Position Description:

We are seeking an intellectually curious, self-motivated and highly skilled post-baccalaureate research intern to join the Kliemann lab to participate in our social cognitive neuroscience research.

The research intern will be a core member of a collaborative research group and will actively contribute to ongoing research in the lab (e.g., behavioral, electrophysiology, neuroimaging data collection and analysis, developing and maintaining data analyses scripts) and support administrative aspects of research (e.g., recruiting and scheduling participants, participant database management, implementing and maintaining replicable scientific practices). The candidate will have the opportunity to advance their own research interests and is strongly encouraged to do so (e.g., presenting original work at conferences and workshops, possibility for co-authorships on publications). The research in the lab offers experience in interacting with different human participant populations in research settings (healthy, psychiatric (e.g., Autism), neurological (e.g., brain lesions, epilepsy)). The position entails learning new skills in scientific programming, multimodal data analysis (behavioral, neuroimaging, possibility for electrophysiology), as well as science communication. The lab provides a highly supportive and collaborative environment. The position is an excellent opportunity to gain active research experience and particularly well-suited for individuals who are preparing for graduate or medical school.

We are looking for someone who can contribute to one or more of the following projects:



  • Investigating the neural basis of social cognitive difficulties in Autism with behavioral and neuroimaging experiments.


  • Characterizing the connectivity of the social brain with fMRI. 


  • Plasticity and reorganization of the brain in patients with brain lesions (e.g., epilepsy, focal brain lesions).

The initial appointment will be for one year beginning as soon as June 2026, with the possibility of renewal for a 2nd year depending on performance and available funding. The list of qualifications is below.

  • Starting salary of $39,530 in the first year;

Education Requirement:



  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience or related field; and plan to pursue graduate study. 

Required Qualifications:



  • Experience working in a research laboratory with human subjects.  


  • Ability to work 40 hours per week, typically during the week but, when necessary, over the weekend or in evenings.  


  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. 


  • Capable of independent, self-directed work as well as working in a collaborative team environment. 


  • Basic data entry and data management skills. 


  • US citizenship or permanent residency. 

Desirable Qualifications:



  • Experience with statistical analysis packages (e.g., Matlab, R, Python etc.). 


  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, Shell, Matlab, etc).  


  • Experience with participant recruitment in research settings (healthy and/or psychiatric/neurological populations, e.g., Autism).  


  • Experience in acquisition and analyses of behavioral and/or neuroimaging experiments in humans (e.g., fMRI, eye tracking) ideal, although we will also consider applicants who can demonstrate a strong commitment to learn these skills.
