About the Role

The Bilox VA Medical Center is seeking a passionate Nephrologist to bring high-quality healthcare directly to Veterans in the Gulf Coast region, offering primary care, mental health services, and specialty care in a modern, well-equipped setting. Responsibilities

  • Work-up, diagnosis, and provision of non-surgical treatment including consultation for both admitted patients and on an outpatient basis in need of care to treat general internal medicine and specialized problems related to the subspecialty of Nephrology.
  • Attend all outpatient nephrology clinics assigned to, as well as in the absence of other providers, to provide cross coverage in a timely manner without cancellations.
  • Attend the Inpatient consultations as per assignment and schedule on a timely basis with a complete consultation assessment and comprehensive care plan.
  • Provide timely hand-offs to provide continuity of care with Peers — clinical nursing staff and hospital providers.
  • Perform timely TMS and BCLS renewals for mandatory training.
  • Submit timely annual leave — vacations and sick leave requests to avoid and prevent cancellations and rescheduling of clinics, preferably before 45 days.
  • Provide on-call and after-hours coverage for weekdays and weekends as per the schedule.
  • Core privileges include: ABG analysis and EKG interpretation.
  • Core procedures include Hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and SLED therapies.
  • Performs the administrative components of patient care management.
  • Infection control - immunization practices should be monitored and referred for treatment.
  • Will be actively involved in teaching residents and students and will periodically direct Noon Conferences for their didactic training.
  • Participate in educational programs.
  • Participate in monitoring the quality, safety and appropriateness of patient care.
  • Provides input and support in the development/updating of policies and procedures impacting Nephrology / Dialysis.
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
  • Attend Medicine Service monthly staff meetings and Medical Staff quarterly staff meetings.
  • Complete medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff.
  • Participate in Medical Staff committee assignments.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Chief of Medicine.
