Job Description

Be the Voice of the Columbia Basin – Editor Wanted

The next chapter of local journalism in Central Washington is waiting to be written, and the Columbia Basin Herald is looking for an Editor to lead the story.

Based in Moses Lake, the Herald is the go-to source for news across Grant and Adams counties. This is a region shaped by agriculture, energy, and rapid growth—and it needs strong, trusted journalism to make sense of it all.

This role is bigger than running a newsroom. It's about shaping how a community sees itself, stays informed, and holds leaders accountable.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a fast-moving newsroom producing compelling coverage across print and digital platforms
  • Set the tone for the stories that matter—from daily news to deep-dive investigative reporting
  • Guide coverage of the Columbia Basin's key issues: agriculture, water, housing, education, energy, and economic growth
  • Strengthen watchdog reporting that keeps local government and institutions accountable
  • Shape the Herald's editorial voice, oversee opinion content, and champion enterprise reporting that builds trust and reader loyalty
  • Mentor reporters, raise newsroom standards, and create a culture of urgency, accountability, and growth
  • Partner with leadership to improve storytelling, visuals, digital performance, and audience engagement
  • Be a visible presence in the community, reinforcing the Herald as a trusted local institution

Who You Are

  • Experienced newsroom leader with strong editorial judgment and excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable managing in a fast-paced environment
  • Skilled in digital publishing and audience growth
  • Committed to the value and impact of local journalism
  • Passionate about mentoring journalists and producing work that matters

At the Columbia Basin Herald, your work will have real impact. You'll lead a newsroom that informs, connects, and strengthens communities in one of Washington's fastest-growing regions.

If you're ready to lead a newsroom where your decisions shape the stories and the future of the community, we want to hear from you.
