Job Description

This contract Electrician position supports a long-term commercial and industrial construction project focused on the installation of rigid and IMC conduit and related electrical systems. You will work primarily from lifts and elevated work areas to install conduit, pull wire, install cable tray systems, and complete electrical terminations in an active construction environment. The role requires comfort working at heights, performing physically demanding tasks, and reading blueprints and electrical schematics while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Install rigid and IMC conduit in commercial and industrial settings, primarily from lifts and elevated work areas.
• Measure, bend, cut, and thread conduit accurately to meet project specifications and layout requirements.
• Pull wire and install cable tray systems according to electrical plans and schematics.
• Complete electrical terminations safely and efficiently, ensuring proper connections and adherence to standards.
• Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics to plan and execute installations.
• Operate aerial lifts and other equipment to perform work at heights in a safe and controlled manner.
• Work effectively in an active construction environment, coordinating with other trades and following site procedures.
• Use basic hand tools and personal drills while caring for and properly using power tools provided on site.
• Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and contribute to overall job site safety and productivity.
• Support a strong Journeyman electrician by executing assigned tasks and learning advanced techniques.
• Adapt to varying work hours and project demands, including weeks with extended hours.
• Communicate clearly with crew members, including supporting team members who speak different primary languages.

• Experience with commercial and industrial electrical installation work.
• Ability to run rigid and IMC conduit safely and efficiently.
• Proficiency in measuring, bending, cutting, and threading conduit.
• Ability to perform electrical wiring and terminations in an industrial environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.
• Comfort working at heights and operating lifts and elevated work platforms.
• Capability to perform physically demanding work in an active construction environment.
• Experience working with cable installation and cable tray systems.
• Ability to use basic hand tools and operate a personal drill.
• Willingness to work an average of 40–50 hours per week, with most weeks closer to 50 hours.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and consistently use required PPE.
• Journeyman-level experience or 1–3 years of field experience supporting a strong Journeyman electrician.

• Previous experience bending, cutting, and threading rigid and IMC conduit is highly beneficial.
• Experience working on large-scale industrial or commercial construction projects.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a crew that may include Spanish-speaking team members.
• Willingness to travel for future projects after successful completion of this assignment.
• Preparedness to bring personal basic tools and a drill; additional power tools are provided on site.
• Interest in developing advanced skills in conduit work and industrial electrical installations.

Work Environment

This role is based in an industrial construction environment where work takes place both indoors and outdoors, depending on weather and project needs. You will frequently work from lifts and elevated platforms and must be comfortable working at heights. The schedule typically starts at 7:00 AM each day, with work hours averaging 40–50 hours per week and most weeks closer to 50 hours, depending on project demands. The assignment is expected to last approximately 9–10 months, with the project running through April 2027. The site follows strict safety practices, and required PPE includes a hard hat, steel-toed or composite-toed work boots, safety glasses, gloves, and high-visibility apparel. Power tools are supplied by the contractor, while you provide your own basic tools and drill. The environment is fast-paced and physically demanding, with active coordination among multiple trades and teams.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Shelbyville, IN.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $40.00/hr.
