Certified Medical Assistant – Orthopedic Institute
Orthopedic Institute in Tea, SD (Sioux Falls metro area) is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our outpatient orthopedic clinical team.
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) supports our physicians and advanced practice providers by delivering high-quality clinical and administrative assistance in a fast-paced orthopedic clinic environment.
This role works closely with providers, nurses, imaging, and therapy teams to ensure an efficient, patient-centered experience.
Greet, room, and prepare patients for orthopedic clinic visits, ensuring comfort and privacy.
Obtain and document patient histories, medications, allergies, and vital signs in the electronic medical record.
Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures ( e.g., joint injections, wound care) within South Dakota medical assistant scope of practice and under appropriate supervision.
Assist with orthopedic-specific tasks such as preparing patients for imaging, supporting casting/splinting, dressing changes, suture/staple removal, and application of bracing or DME per provider order and training.
Perform basic clinical tasks such as collecting specimens, performing point-of-care tests, and administering medications as permitted by South Dakota regulations and organizational policy.
Provide patient education on post-visit and post-procedure instructions as directed by the provider.
Support phone and in-basket triage by relaying patient symptoms, messages, and prescription requests to providers following established protocols.
Schedule and coordinate follow-up appointments, outside testing, and referrals to maintain continuity of musculoskeletal care.
Maintain exam rooms, supplies, and equipment in a clean, safe, and organized manner, following OSHA and infection control standards.
Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all clinic policies and procedures.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program required.
Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, AAMA) or equivalent national credential (e.g., RMA) preferred; willingness to obtain and maintain certification according to credentialing body requirements.
Prior medical assistant experience in an orthopedic, sports medicine, or specialty clinic setting is preferred but not required.
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to provide compassionate, patient-focused service in a team environment.
Proficiency with computers and electronic medical records systems.
This is a full-time position located in our Tea, SD location.
